Game Notes for the Weekend at DuQuoin

  • Here are some things you might need to know about this weekend's baseball tournament:
  • I have talked to others who have played there. They say it's pretty cool inside. Don't think there's heat. So, if it's cold outside, it will be pretty cold inside, too. Dress warm, boys and parents.
  • There are no pitcher's mounds. The boys will pitch from a flat surface. We did this at a tournament a couple of times later year, too. I don't particularly like it, but that's the way it is.
  • THERE ARE NO PITCHING LIMITS for the weekend. Crazy but true. They are going by high school rules. As a team, we will impose fairly strict pitch limits on our pitchers.
  • The tournament director has issued some other information that I have posted below, as well as a new bracket. It didn't affect us that I can see.
  • I have looked at the routes to DuQuoin and have chosen to cross the ferry going up. Google Maps says it's 80 some odd miles from Cave in Rock, about an hour and half driving time. I will be leaving from The Press office around 4:30 or 5 if anyone wants to follow, or needs a ride.

Friday Jan 30 Schedule at DuQuoin Wooden Bat Tournament

Brackets will be available by Wednesday

We were suppose to have received brackets this past week so I called the tournament director Sunday at DuQuoin. Here is what I learned from our conversation:

1. The tournament is made and we will be playing at DuQuoin.
2. We will play on Friday night for certain.
3. A double-elemination tournament starts Saturday morning.
4. It appears we will play at least 2 games Saturday.

At this point, we are taking just 9 players. So everyone must be on time and fully committed. I will have some standby players on the roster in case we get into a situation we need someone.

I am off most of Monday for MLK Day. The cage will be available and so will I. Please try to make some time that day to hit and pitch.

UPDATED PROPOSED SCHEDULE

Parents ... please look over this schedule. I have found some other tournaments nearby which will eliminate need for overnight travel. Based on this schedule, our only truly overnight tournament would be the one coming up in DuQuoin.

We still might add something in early March, but that only option is Jackson, Tenn. USSSA.

Like I mentioned earlier, we are not going to have very many players on the roster. We must have full commitment for these tournaments. THANKS!
